We have a HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT!

Wrentham's Youth Soccer Board voted unanimously in favor of merging with King Philip Soccer Association (KPSA) starting in the fall of 2024. With the merger, KPSA will now encompass the former Norfolk Lions, Wrentham K-2, all Norfolk, Plainville and Wrentham Travel 3-6, and KPSA 7-8 teams.

This has been on the minds of Norfolk, Plainville and Wrentham players, parents and coaches for quite some time. For what seems like forever now, we’ve heard from players, parents and coaches asking us to make this change for a myriad of reasons from playing with their friends in other towns, to how it works in other sports, and to how it will solve the roster size issues (too few and too many players on a team) and further the development of all our players. 

Furthermore, there are already multiple blueprints - King Philip Chiefs Youth Football, King Philip Youth Lacrosse, and King Philip Basketball Association organizations - to show the positive effects this will have on our soccer players success not only on the field, but also and more importantly in their everyday lives at King Philip Middle School, King Philip High School or whichever school our players choose in the future.

The  two-day KPSA Evaluations will take place during the  week of Monday, May 20, depending on your players grade in the fall of 2024. Players will be evaluated by staff from Next Step Academy out of Mendon.  All groups will get two tryouts this year. We ask that parents do not stay on the sidelines during evaluations.

You'll register for the Fall 2024 KPSA season (and attend the appropriate evaluation dates below for the grade your child will be in during the Fall 2024 season).

Evaluation Location:  Pond Street Rec Complex

Evaluation note: Everyone makes a team that registers in time! Evaluations are to place children on the appropriate team based on their skill level. We're using independent evaluators both days so each child gets a full and fair evaluation of their skillset. We understand that some children would prefer to attend other events during the evaluation dates/times and they look forward to having fun playing soccer regardless of their team placement. Attire: We ask that each player wear black (dark) shorts and a white shirt. Please do NOT wear anything with a club soccer logo. Each player will be identified by a number they’ll pin to their shirt during evaluations. These will be handed out during check-in.

7th/8th grade goalie only: Please plan to attend both days of evaluations. In addition, email [email protected] to let us know you'd like to attend the goalie only evaluation. Date/time to be determined soon. 

Finally, the feedback on Wrentham, Plainville and Norfolk joining for 3rd-8th grade has been overwhelmingly positive. Thank you for your support. Please remember that there's a tremendous amount of work that goes into planning a season for over 650 travel soccer athletes, all of which is done by volunteers. 

Questions and Answers

Here are a few Q&A to help answer some questions that you may have. There is a lot of work that goes into selecting the dates and times, and they have been finalized with our outside evaluator. If you cannot make both days of evaluations, email [email protected] . It is strongly recommended that children attend BOTH days of evaluations.
 
Q- Do I need to buy a uniform if I don’t already have one?
A- No, just let us know your size. 

Q- I want to volunteer but I don’t have time to coach. How can I help?
A- Please sign up to help with the fields for an hour! We’re also adding a team manager for each team to help with communications. 

Q- If my child cannot attend try-outs can they still play?
A- Yes, they can. They will not be eligible for the top team in their grade. Please email [email protected] if your child will not be attending both days of evaluations.

Q- My child plays for a club team; will you take that into consideration?
A- No. In today’s day and age all kids can play club and most do. KPSA hires a third-party evaluation team to assess and help to form our teams. These are experts in this field and therefore we do not take data or info from any other third party. This is in an effort to kept he process as fair as possible.

Q- Is there a make-up date for try-outs?
A- No. There will not be a make-up date. We hire a third party who will assess every child against his or her peers. Make-up dates do not allow for the process to be as efficient. 

Q- My child is a goalie, will they be evaluated based on that position?
A- Goalie only positions are only evaluated for 7th/8th graders. If your child is in 7th/8th grade an interested in participating in the goalie only evaluation, please email [email protected] for more information. 

Q- My child plays other sports in the fall that will conflict with soccer, what should I do?
A- When registering, all children need to share the number of games they anticipate missing (with 10 games, missing 3 games would put your child at 70%). If you miss more than 3 games this fall you won’t be eligible for the top team. Please be honest, we want to make sure we have visibility so enough kids are included and each team can field a team on game days.
